Ben Murcek, DO


Benjamin W. Murcek, D.O., FAOCO, is a board certified otolaryngologist, head and neck surgeon who practices is in Sandusky, OH. Dr. Murcek is a founding member and currently chair of the board of directors of Northern Ohio Medical Specialists (NOMS). NOMS is a multispecialty group medical practice based in Sandusky, OH with approximately 50 physician members and 10 midlevel providers. NOMS was recently awarded ACO status by CMS and is one of only 3 ACOs in northern Ohio.

Dr. Murcek relocated to Sandusky after completing his residency in 1992. He has a particular interest in the treatment of head and neck cancer as well as surgical disease of the thyroid and parathyroid. Dr. Murcek is actively involved in medical education, training medical students, interns and residents. He has garnered many awards for his clinical teaching including Master Clinical Faculty from the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Murcek sits on the American Osteopathic Association’s Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists and is chairman of the American Osteopathic Board of Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery.

Dr. Murcek and a colleague founded the Northern Ohio Surgical Center, a free -standing outpatient surgery center in Sandusky, OH. The center has been the centerpiece of many publications in the industry, setting an example for safety, patient satisfaction and economic success. It has also served as an avenue to partner with the local hospital in an effort to provide the best service for the region’s patients and surgeons as well. He is currently a member of the physician management group that oversees the day-to-day operations of the center.

Dr. Murcek is very interested in the rapidly changing health care delivery environment. His involvement with NOMS, the surgery center as well as his active participation at the national level with the AOA gives him a unique perspective as a practicing physician surgeon as well as entrepreneur.
