Alice Shade

Alice Shade is the CEO and Co-founder of Sentry Health, a technology enabled health care delivery company. Alice’s deep background in the health care industry gives her a unique perspective of the importance of having providers, insurers, businesses, and consumers work together to solve the challenges of providing effective and efficient health care services. Sentry Health (previously Edumedics) was named a 2012 Hot Dozen by the Greater Louisville Inc.

Beginning her career at a small health plan in Central Kentucky, she became knowledgeable about all areas of health plan operations, including procurement, marketing, customer and member services, claims payment, and provider contracting. Later, she worked for United Healthcare, where she negotiated physician, hospital, and ancillary contracts and developed innovative pay for performance programs. She was a member of the executive management team, contributing to strategic vision and operations for the Kentucky and Indiana markets. She used her strong analytic skills to identify the causes of claim cost trends to improve cost and quality outcomes.

At the University of Louisville, Shade negotiated insurance and managed-care contracts on behalf of the faculty physicians. In 2011 she received the national Excellence in HR Practices Award from the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources. The award honors individuals who have demonstrated they have successfully worked to improve the quality of programs and services through effective human resource administrative practices.

Recently, Shade received the Ernst & Young EDGE Award for South-Central Ohio and Kentucky. The award recognizes business leaders in the pipeline to become national Entrepreneur of the Year. Shade was the only executive from Kentucky to receive the honor.

Shade’s experience has enabled her to provide a wide range of services to clients, including analyzing claims’ payments, developing disease management programs, designing health plans, and implementing purchasing, credentialing, and enrollment plans.
